CAREER IN DEFENCE FORCES
Introduction
1. Indian Defence Forces have a reputation of being one of the finest in the world and offer a very challenging and attractive career for Indian youth, both men and women. Indian Defence forces, after induction, impart required training to ensure that individual becomes fully capable of handling difficult and complex situation arising in operational and administrative spheres.
Working Environment in the Defence Forces
2.The environment in the Indian Defence Forces offers:-
(a) A very healthy work culture. It offers challenging and result-oriented environment and is best suited for honest and upright persons who have a desire to serve and as such holds the promise of bringing high social standing and honour to an individual who pursues the right path.
(b) The environment is free of bias on terms of religion caste creed sex etc. It teaches the individual to live in harmony with other individuals coming from diverse backgrounds. It is the only career which motivates and demands the supreme sacrifice for the country.
(c) The Armed forces provides reasonably good and fast career growth. Career growth in armed forces depends on performance and your capabilities. Certain courses entitle you to additional pay and allowances.
(d) Life in armed forces is regimented and it takes priority over normal life and builds up Esprit-de-Corps.
(e) It is a unique organisation which develops bonds of brotherhood and espirit-de-corps amongst the members of the organisation
Nature of Work
3. Though the primary task is defending our nation against external aggression, many times it is called to restore internal strife and help in natural calamities. Indian Armed Forces render invaluable service to the nation, both in times of war and peace.
4.Nature of work in Armed Forces is diverse and also demands serving in most difficult terrain and weather conditions throughout the country, and hence there is a need of constant physical fitness of highest order.
Major Branches
5. THE INDIAN ARMY. The Indian Army is mainly divided into combat arms and services. The combat arms are the infantry, the artillery, and the armoured corps, The Corps of Engineers and Corps of Signals and the Army Air Defence. Whereas, services include Army Service Corps, Army Ordnance Corps, Army Postal services, Army Medical Corps, Army education corps, Intelligence Corps and So on. The latter provides logistics support to the fighting arms.
Combat arms are responsible for actual combat, whereas, services are responsible to ensure continuous flow of required ordnance including food and clothing for men, varied vehicles and tanks and arms and ammunition.
6. THE INDIAN NAVY. The Navy has three main branches:
a) The Executive Branch which manages the navy's warships and submarines as instruments of tactical warfare.
b) The Engineering Branch which is responsible for the maintenance and service of engineering equipment and the propulsion systems on board the ships including electrical and electronic systems, weapon systems, missiles, radar, and radio communication systems.
c) The Education Branch ensures that the officers and men are updated in their technical knowledge and tactics.
7. THE INDIAN AIR FORCE. The Air force is divided into three main branches:
a) Flying Branch. The Flying branch includes fighter pilots who fly combat or fighter planes carrying ammunition and missiles; transport pilots who fly planes which carry men and materials, and helicopter pilots who provide air support to a moving army, or are used for para-dropping men and supplies.
b) Technical Branch. The Technical branch gives engineering support and is responsible for the engineering equipment and weapons systems of the air force.
c) Administrative Branch. The Administrative Branch includes all the departments that provide logistical, meteorological, educational and administrative support to the flying and technical branches.
ENTRY INTO DEFENCE FORCES
7. A person can join the defence forces at different stages in his life starting from after 10+2 to after post graduation. The various entries are given in the succeeding paragraphs. These entries are pertaining to all defence forces but nomenclature used by various services may vary a little. Nominclature here is what pertains to the Indian Army.
After 10+2
8. NDA. Students on completion of 10+2 can join the National Defence Academy Khadakwasla. All +2 students can appear in the competition, but students with maths have an advantage as there is a separate paper of mathematics. 9. TES. The Technical Entry Scheme is only for the technical branches of the defence forces. Students can apply for the same after 10+2 results. It is basically for students who had physics and maths in the +2 stage and minimum of 70% marks in the CBSE board. After Graduation
10. CDS Exam. The main entry into the three services is through the Combined Defence Services Exam Conducted by the UPSC. All students who have completed graduation in any subject can appear for the exam. Students studying in the final year of graduation can also apply for the exam. 11. TGS. The Technical Graduate Scheme is basically for Engineering graduates after completion of engineering. No written test is held but students have to appear in the SSB. For further details visit website or contact Col Dhillon at 09988159890.

Conclusion
