Leapers Airsoft Guns by Jacob T Anderson
Leapers is an American company whose factory is located in Michigan. They have been in business since 1992. Leapers makes a wide range of hunting and shooting accessories, from tactical vests to scopes. They maintain a subsection known as Under The Gun through which they sell their airsoft-specific equipment. While this still includes tactical gear, Under The Gun actually makes some airsoft guns as well. The gearboxes come from various Chinese companies such as JG, WELL and CYMA.
Leapers' scopes are not manufactured solely for the airsoft market. Many enthusiasts use Leapers scopes on air rifles, as well as low caliber plinkers up to .223. In the hunting world they are considered to be budget scopes, but the fact that people put them on real steel firearms at all says a lot about their effectiveness in airsoft. They have been compared to NcStar scopes but some people feel products from Leapers are of better quality.
As for tactical gear, Leapers is one of the best choices on the market. Their tactical vests especially are great quality for the price and include lots of useful features like cross draw holsters. While the quality is not as high as that of say, Blackhawk, for the price it is actually a much better deal. Many of Leaper's tactical gear offerings feature MOLLE webbing and they field a line of backpacks and hydration packs as well.
The range of airsoft guns from UTG is wide and varied. They do not only sell AEGs, but also springers, sniper rifles, handguns and shotguns. The guns generally come from OEMs in China and are at entry level prices. The Chinese airsoft manufacturers have really stepped up their game in the past few years and so most replicas from UTG are great value for money. Sniper rifles from UTG are some of if not the most popular airsoft sniper rifles for beginners.
One outstanding piece of tactical gear from UTG is the Ultimate Tactical Gear 10 Piece Kit. The meat of this package is the MOLLE compatible tactical vest, fully adjustable to fit any user. The kit also comes with a drop pouch, two drop leg platforms and an ambidextrous holster. The vest features a mesh interior to keep the user cool, as well as Velcro patches for ID or rank display. All the pouches are removable and most have a quick release function. The 10 Piece Kit comes with a one year warranty from Leapers, who are known for their excellent customer service.
As for optics, the Leapers Gen 5 ITA Red and Green Dot Sight is an excellent choice for an AEG or sniper rifle. Dot sights are perfect for airsoft because they allow for faster target acquisition without sacrificing much range of vision. Also, because airsoft guns do not fire very far compared to real firearms, zoom is usually unnecessary. This sight can be switched between red and green dot depending on surroundings and personal preference. It mounts to any Picatinny or Weaver rail system and is suitable for everything from rifles to handguns.
On the airsoft gun front, a great product from UTG is the Gen 5 Master Sniper Rifle. This gun's externals are almost entirely metal, only the trigger guard and stock are made from ABS plastic. This gun weighs over 6 pounds by itself, and over 9 pounds with the accessories attached. Accessories include a bipod equipped with Picatinny rails, a butt stock that is adjustable with spacers and an extra magazine. The Gen 5 Master Sniper Rifle fires around 325FPS with .2g BBs.
